Killing me that I haven't been able to get back up North since New Years. I have 2 more sports weekends, then I'll be making a run up there soon after....
Snow reports and trail reports for Northern WI and Northern MI are all good. Seems like the groomers are pleased with the current conditions and they've been getting some good snow this week. The Keweenaw of the UP has around 50" of base and even Northern WI and the UP has around 20-24" on the ground. With 2 months left in the riding season, this ought to be a great base for us. :punk:

I'm back into the sport, bought a hardly used 2012 Phazer MTX (361 miles).
I've had it upside down a couple time boondocking, never had so much fun on a sled (no need for speed anymore).
Snow north of Brainerd, MN is Okay 1ft on the ground.
-
Mercer/Ironwood was absolutely fabulous the past couple days!
-
Michigan's Keweenaw area is experiencing record breaking snowfall (possible). I should say on track to break records....
I got out on some early rides (late December). Experienced some sub-par conditions. Downed trees, trail wash outs, bumps, water, rocks. Conditions improved right at New Years eve and I was able to get much more miles and smiles going  Plan is to get back up yonder in 2 weeks. Even hope to take a few days off work and extend that trip to make up for some lost time.
That MTX sounds fun BTW ! Always liked those machines.... :thumbsupsmileyanim:

We have enough snow to ride on, north of the twin cities, but not enough to groom yet. The government in their infinite wisdom decided to try and lower Peltier Lake this winter by four feet to kill the weeds. However, this was one of the wettest falls on record and the water is coming in as fast as going out. We tried to open the trail on the north side of the lake a couple of weeks ago but both creeks weren't safe to cross yet, do to the increased flow.

Did you say government and wisdom in the same sentence ? :nono:

I'll be up next weekend. Right now got a truck down and replacing these. Good thing I left sled north after XMAS
-
Went out for my first ride of the season yesterday and put on 15 miles. Barely enough snow to ride on and 40 degree weather coming this week. At least I found out I really like the new plastic skis with the dual carbides. No darting at all.

It's all ball bearings these days.....

Something for a diesel? EGR related? End of week/weekend not looking good for the Northwoods.
-
RD,
that looks way too clean for an EGR valve on a diesel nowdays!! hehehe,
:punk:

In my defense I said egr related, not valve!
-
It's the egr valve and housing. 112k. Miles. And stuck/inop. Wont allow dpf tegen. Replacing housing and valve. Awaiting parts. At least its all on top of engine and accessible. Would really like to delete it all. Maybe after i retire.
Its off my F250
-
You should see the egr tube on my ecodiesel with only 20k on it.
Here is one with 13k on it...
Got to remedy that EGR thing and delete it.. I'm ordering a tune for mine soon, turns egr off and a few other goodies, no delete though so everything stays in place and functional.
My buddy has a F350 King Ranch Crew cab (long box), 6.0 psd. He deleted everything, tune, etc, had the heads and stuff fixed, thing is a beast now.

Almost all the trails in my county are now open. Little thinner to the west by the MN border.
As per usual our club has has moved into a regular grooming schedule and the other clubs are just getting things open.
In justification our county does have a lot of swamps to freeze down, not many big ones but it doesn't take a big hole to sink a groomer.
I have a few hundred miles of recreational riding in. It takes at least 160 miles just to open trails so I have a couple hundred miles on there too.
And now were are in for approx 130 hours straight of above freezing temps. :banghead:
-
I was lurking JD's trail cams and saw that the UP got a quick warm up that melted away a good chunk of base  Hoping the snow machine turns back on in the next 4-5 days :snow:
-
Another crappy snow year? Is in not yet time to hang up snowmobiling?

Started out good. Was able to get a couple rides in, early into the season, but a recent rain storm and some warm temps shut her down for a little while. Hoping the snow machine turns back on really soon :'(
-
Johnnydoo and I ran up into the Southern edge of the UP last weekend. Snowcover was poor, like 6-7" on the ground after the prior weekend's warm up and rain :banghead:
Lots of trailers running further north into the Keeweenaw where I assume things were much better. Instead of trailering further North, we ended up working for two days at the cabin. I think we both needed some work time off and throwing some hammers around always makes a guy feel better. Plus, a nice fish fry and a case of beer are hard to pass on. Got a good amount of work completed at the camp. Installed the floor system, insulated it, got some pex tubing installed, wired 50% of the addition and got some circuits up and running. Very thankful to have some of my buddies come and help me up there the past 8-10 years !

it might be time to think about a utv or some dirt bikes.. these last 2 winters have been brutal.

I had a deal on a RZR last year, but my buddy decided not to sell it.
Keeping my eyes peeled for a decent used RZR 570 or 800 :ninja:

Someone showed me a picture of how beautiful the trails are in northern MN, but I have no desire to travel that far to ride. For me it is time to think about golf.

Not me, maybe the Gulf of Mexico, LOL..... :floor:
We have 4-5 more good weeks of winter yet. It should work it's self out soon....
Besides, if we can't bitch about the lack of snow, what else are we going to talk about ? Trump ?

it isn't just lack of snow. Sledders aren't registering their sleds and Minnesota is considering removing the 1% gas tax to be used for recreation. Every year, our grant is being reduced. The state DNR is not allowed to run at a loss. None of my friends snowmobile anymore, but I have many friends that still golf. I have seniors in my golf league that are still golfing in their 80's.

golf? Pfft. A sport that no one is trying to take the ball away from you makes no sense.

The sport of snowmobiling is dying in MN. Lack of snow, except in the far northern regions. Only the rich can afford to spend $15000 on a new sled. What is really nice about golf is that I can golf now for about 8 months out of the year in MN. My sled just sits in the garage most of the year, and I am lucky if I get to use it more than one day per year.

Maybe time to consider picking up that speed triple I wanted to get.

Last night watching the weather they said it was going to be mid to upper 40s today. My wife surprised me and asked if we could go out on the bikes... Last time out was New Year day.

You guys are always getting porked lately. You should bail and focus on atv.
Here in the northern fringe of the northeast riding is excellent. :checkeredflag:

I only use my ATV for opening up trails through the swamps and for deer hunting. It gets a lot more use than my snowmobile.

My inlaws own some land in ft myers area. If I lived in FL, I would have a boat for fishing and running around the bays, etc. Prolly a motorcycle too.. kinda been eyeing this as an alternative to sled.

Porkstar, I love fla. We sold our Daytona beach condo some years ago but still frequent the area. Last spring we bought a 40' coach and hit the turkey run last fall. We will make that a yearly trip. Picking up our new rzr 4 seater as soon as it stops snowing around here(another 6~12 tomorrow). ...gonna drag it behind the coach this summer and tour parts of Canada and their wonderful atv trail system. Still lovin my ski-doo. :beer2:

Skidoos still, huh. I've kinda gravitated over to those HotRodLincoln Polaris units, that you use dto be fond of, of late. 600RMK and a Indy 144 550. Along with a couple of doos

I'll take Illinois spring summer fall humidity over f'n floerita's any day. Winter means cold and snow. live with it.

Golf is more fun though and requires a lot of skill. I haven't achieve the skill part yet, but still working on it.

I'm not a big Florida fan either. That hot and sticky stuff isn't my cup of tea.
I think I love the seasons too much. Always something to look forward to in the Midwest.

East coast of fla gets cool drying breeze from atlantic. Its much more comfortable than other areas, especially west coast. Still damn hot tho in summer. I'm not sure I could handle year round living there.
Polaris still make sleds? oh yeah, show room was full of them gimmicks when I was in there buying our new rzr.
