General Snowmobile Discussion / Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah

Whatever you are celebrating have a safe and happy holiday!

None of you know Rob Goudy but he rode with us when Andy and Tommy made the trip East a few years ago.

We met him and his wife Teana at 46 Corners with Snowtime and rode to The Florence Hotel and Kasoag Lake Park. Rob was on a SkiDoo and jumped the berm in the parking lot onto the lake about 10 feet below. Rob was very active in the Vintage Motocross scene and also owned a Guitar Shop and was an excellent player as well.

He was never on any sled sites that I recall. He and Teana bought a bar in Pulaski a few years ago and turned it into a nice place to stop. Rob and Teana were active in the local club and Teana runs a groomer.

RIP Rob... :beer2:

This makes 5 people that I met though snowmobiling that have passed on in as many years...

I needed something to keep me out of trouble...
Back in October, I stumbled across a 1980 Husqvarna WR 390 that had been in a garage fire. Rather than see it parted out and be lost forever I decided that she would be a worthy project.
Got her running and once I confirmed the engine, transmission and clutch were good I decided to make her pretty again.

As purchased...

In the fire all of the plastic body work was melted and the rest of the bike sustained smoke and soot damage. I decided the best thing was to have the frame powder coated... While that was happening I spruced up the remaining parts.

Tear Down...

Frame back from the powder coater...

Going back together...

The Ohlins remote reservoirs...

Coming together...

As she is now...

Went on vacation for the first time since selling the camp... VERY relaxing not having to worry about firewood, yardwork, etc!
We rented a vacation home that was built in 1865 as a one room school house and reborn as a cozy vacation rental.
We relaxed, napped, ate, hiked (Appalachian Trail crosses the road a few miles away.)

Anyway to the point...
Hermey's BMW/Triumph dealer is just over the mountain about a 1/2 hour away by car or bike. Went over there on Saturday and traded our 2005 & 2007 BMW 650 GSs in on a 2015 leftover 650GS for Lynn and a 2013 F800GS for me...

Being down to only three motorcycles was starting to bum me out. I was itching for another dirt bike of some type so I went to a swap meet on Saturday put on by the "Oily Pipes Gang"

I found a 1974 Yamaha TY 250 Trials bike that looked like it needed some lovin'

I saw some rust in the in line filter so I decided to pull the tank and give it a good cleaning.
Apparently these things can run on anything!

Well new to me... built in the late 60s early 70s

New Holland 450 Sickle Bar attachment for the tractor to trim back brush and hedgerows that are too out of control to cut with the brushhog...

Normally used to cut hay as I'm sure you Mid-Westerners are well aware. I modified the linkage to allow it to cut from 45* to 90* vertical for the hedgerows...

Video before and after mods...

This thing will take down 1.5 inch trees if you go slow!

Well the time has come to move on...
Some of you know that at the end of last season we sold Lynn's Dragon. Just before Christmas I sold my Rage and the trailer as a package.

Tomorrow we make settlement on the sale of the "Phantom Encampment" (as Andy called it)
It is sort of bittersweet in the fact that I built the camp myself and drove most every nail, lag and screw with my own hands... it was a very satisfying experience that I would not give up for the world but interests have changed...

Our love now (as it always has been for me) is motorcycles and being in South Jersey means a 10-12 month season and riding from our driveway which really makes more sense all the way around. Once Lynn took up riding the deal was pretty much sealed as she is not only my favorite riding partner and friend but my wife. It was just a matter of time until she was ready to venture out to experience new places on the bike and the time has come.
Selling the cabin will allow us to travel to new and different places for our vacations instead of being tied to one place although that place was pretty much ideal for our interests at the time.

It has been a good 15 + year run and we have made many great friends both up at the cabin and on line in the various forums. I started on back in 1995 when Karin owned the site and still frequent it much to everyone's dismay. I will still be popping in and checking up on everyone but snowmobiling is over for us except for the fond memories.

BTW I don't know is anyone remembers Wally who was instrumental in getting Witchway to get on TC back then which resulted in Roady, Moondisc, Maddog and others in New York on board but Wally passed just last week. He and his family are in out thoughts and prayers...

General Snowmobile Discussion / Intake/Carb/Throttle Body Boots
« on: March 20, 2015, 01:33:23 PM »
Guy I sold the Dragon to found a delaminated T/B boot. It was installed less than 5000 miles ago.

The dealer he uses told him he recommends to ALL customers no matter what brand to change the boot EVERY year because even "updated" ones from all manufactures are separating after a season and are basically junk.

Just a heads up!

Had all the bikes out for their Pre-Spring shakedown rides on Tuesday afternoon.

General Snowmobile Discussion / A few changes this week...
« on: March 15, 2015, 06:44:53 PM »
Picked up a new Aluma MC210 trailer last week to replace my old utility trailer that I had modified with wheel pockets for the dual sport bikes. And a Bike trailer I picked up last year.  The utility trailer went down the road behind it's new owners vehicle today.

The new Aluma...

The old utility/bike trailer and the dedicated bike trailer.

I also sent Lynn's 2007 Dragon 700 down the road today.

Still have my sled and two place trailer and a nice Continental galvanized two rail bike trailer to blow out and the purge will be complete for this year.

It is with great sadness I report the passing of Art Pelky my neighbor and friend at camp.

Details are sketchy but reports are he was at our other neighbors camp Frank Nichols watching football Saturday. He got up... went outside and returned with beers for everyone. He sat down opened his beer grimaced and tried to get up but could not. Those there administered CPR until EMTs arrived who continued the CPR and they defibbed him twice with no luck. We assume it was a heart attack.

Art (blue cap) and me (gray shirt) decking a bridge for our club...

Picked up the black 2007 for Lynn back in January and did a 760 mile road trip to Rochester, NY to pick up the yellow 2005 for me on Saturday. A bit more street oriented than our old DS bikes but still off road capable.
Worst thing was riding down the road and seeing a dirt road and wondering where it went.

Mine came with almost $2,000 in BMW quick detach luggage, crash bars and auxiliary lighting.
