Got a bit bored with street riding all the time...
« on: March 17, 2014, 07:59:51 AM »
Picked up the black 2007 for Lynn back in January and did a 760 mile road trip to Rochester, NY to pick up the yellow 2005 for me on Saturday. A bit more street oriented than our old DS bikes but still off road capable.
Worst thing was riding down the road and seeing a dirt road and wondering where it went.

Mine came with almost $2,000 in BMW quick detach luggage, crash bars and auxiliary lighting.

I understand the dilemma. Correct spelling takes time that could be spent licking the windows on the short bus.

I'm sure... rated at 77 MPG @ a steady 55 mph as BMW states in their literature. The yellow '05 was owned by a CEO of a non profit who decked it all out and used it for commuting... only 7,000 miles.

Is the gas tank in the rear?

Yep... The whole black textured area under the seat is the fuel tank including the area where the two yellow trim strips are and it continues back under the yellow trim covers at the rear. It is like a saddle tank and wraps around the shock. I think the capacity is somewhere around 4 gallons. Gives the bike a low CoG along with a range close to 300 miles.

So what is above the engine where the gas tank would normally be?

Battery, Electrical Center, Oil Tank (Dry Sump System) Air Intake System. Mine Cam with a Shorai Lithium battery... amazing, it is so light it feels like an empty plastic case.

This set up is exactly like a Ducati Monster
